San Francisco, Nov 30, : , Zoom video conferencing app has launched automatic updates to all users with the latest security fixes and features.This is to expand the offerings previously only available to enterprise users. Automatic software updates are now available on the desktop Zoom client for Windows and macOS.However, it is not yet available for Linux.
ZDNet reported that mobile devices can be automatically updated via app stores.
Zoom stated that automatic updates will be enabled by default for most consumers.
Users can change the frequency of updates by going to Settings, under General, where you’ll find a checkbox that says “Automatically keep my Zoom updated”.
“When critical security updates have been involved, updates will be sent to everyone,” stated Jeromie Clark (Zoom technical product manager for security & privacy) in a blogpost.
The default option, ‘Slow’, is the default.It means that updates are less frequent and more focused on stability.
The ‘Fast” option delivers the most recent features and updates as soon they are available.
Zoom may be installed on Windows by the enterprise via MSI packages, macOS PKG files or MSI files.
The automatic update setting for end users is disabled for the enterprise.
Enterprises that use EXE or DMG packages have this option by default.Administrators can disable this option.
Zoom provides monthly feature updates and security updates.
Clark stated that the update “improves the existing experience” and broadens the audience to include all desktop client users, even those who are not part of an enterprise organization.
Clark said that automatic updates allow users to easily access security fixes and other helpful features, which improves their overall experience on the Zoom platform.
