Kiev 18 August : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again urged Moscow to immediately restore the tense Zaporizhzhya nuclear power station under full Ukrainian control prior to the start of negotiations with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
"The Russian army must withdraw from the area of the nuclear power station as well as all surrounding areas, and remove their military equipment and weapons from the power plant," Zelensky said on Telegram.
"This is to be done without conditions and as soon as is possible." Zelensky stated that Ukrainian diplomats scientists, diplomats as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were working on sending an IAEA mission to the troubled power plant, the dpa news agency reported "Only complete transparency and (a) controlled environment within and around the (Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant) will ensure an eventual return to normal security for the Ukrainian state as well as for the international community and for the IAEA," he said.
The IAEA visit to the plant will be one of the topics of the gathering with Zelensky, Guterres and and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, scheduled to be held on Thursday in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.int/sh.
