New Delhi, Nov 26th : .UK Health Secretary Sajid javid raised alarm about the new super-mutant Covid variant.
This will make vaccines less effective by at least 40%.According to the Daily Mail, flights from South Africa and five other countries will be banned. “Our scientists are deeply worried about this variant.The Health Secretary stated that she was concerned about the variant and took this action.
“The first indications we have about this variant are that it may be more transmissible to than the Delta variant, and the vaccines we currently have may not be as effective against it.”
Experts explained earlier that the B.1.1.529 variant (left), has more than 30 mutations, the most ever recorded in a variant, and twice as many than Delta.This suggests it could be more jab resistant and transmissible as any version before it.
The variant, which could be called ‘Nu’ by World Health Organization in coming days, has caused an “exponentially high” number of infections in South Africa.It has also spread to three other countries, including Botswana and Hong Kong, where it is believed that it has emerged.
There have been no cases in the UK, but all those who have returned from South Africa within the last 10 days will be contacted to arrange a test.
The Daily Mail reported that currently, between 500 and 700 people travel to the UK each day from South Africa.
However, this number could rise as the festive season begins.
