Women’s football national: Karen hat trick fashions Maharashtra’s big win

Former junior India striker Karen Pais stole the spotlight with a fine hat trick that secured Maharashtras (WIFAs) emphatic 6-0 victory against Arunachal Pradesh in a Group E league match of AIFF Senior Womens National Football Championship at EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode on Monday.

Trupti Deep scored one to complete the winning score.Valencia DMello, Karens teammate, also scored a braceSandhya scored eight goals in Tamil Nadus 20-0 win at Kozhikode, while Himachal Pradesh beat Bihar 3-2 at Kuthuparamba Municipal Stadium.

Parnita Tirkey scored one goal as Jharkhand defeated Karnataka by a single goal.Delhi held Goa 1-1, Sikkim beat Jammu and Kashmir 5-5, and Assam beat Rajasthan 7-0.Indian Football Association (IFA) held Punjab to a draw.The Arunachal defenders kept the Maharashtra attackers under control and didnt allow much space for the rival forwards in half one.After the games end, Maharashtra took control of play and won a penalty in the 49th.Valencia converted it to open the scoring.

After a few missed chances, Maharashtra was unable to score the first of her three goals in the 73rd minutes.The dashing Mumbai striker, who showed impressive scoring form, again scored three minutes later to increase the lead to 3-0.Valencia scored her second goal in the 79th minutes, and Trupti, a Gondia District striker, scored Maharashtras fifth goal at the 88th.Next minute, Karen displayed great finishing skills by finding the net for the 3rd time to complete her hat trick and seal Maharashtra’s fluent victory.
