Thiruvananthapuram on August 12 ( IANS) Consequent to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan failing to sign 11 Ordinances to re-promulgate The Lok Ayukta will pronounce its verdict in an action against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for mishandling the Chief Ministers Distress Relief Fund.
The situation is now, with that Ordinance lapsing and any negative verdict in the matter could lead to the chief minister put in his paperwork. On Wednesday the state government opted to convene an extra Assembly session starting on August 22 in order to approve the expired Ordinances in the form of an Act.After the Ordinance that cut the power of the Lok Ayukta was inked by Governor Khan in the beginning of the year, public activist R.S.Sasikumar had approached the High Court seeking its intervention in returning the power of the Lok Ayukta. He said to IANS today that with Khan not signing the re-promulgation document, the Lok Ayukta has been granted all the power "I am currently filing an application with the High Court with a prayer that the court intervene and ordain the Lok Ayukta to give its verdict in the case against Vijayan the moment the trial in the case was completed in March." said Sasikumar.
In addition, towards the closing of the previous Vijayan government, the former State Minister for Higher Education K.T.Jaleel was forced to step down in the wake of the Lok Ayukta verdict that indicted the minister for abuse of the authority of the state. The saving grace for Vijayan and Jaleel was that the verdict came after the voting for the April 2021 Assembly elections had been conducted.sg/shb.
