New Delhi, Nov 30, : Following the emergence of Omicron — a new Covid-19 variant, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kehriwal asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday to ban international flights landing in Delhi as the majority of them land in the capital.

Why aren’t we following their lead? We had taken the time to stop foreign flight in the first wave,” Kejriwal tweeted.He also said that most foreign flights arrive to Delhi, which is the most affected.

He asked the prime minister to stop all flights immediately.AAP leader quoted a media report that stated: “A South Africa returningee has tested positive to COVID-19 at Chandigarh.One of his relatives and domestic help were also positive for the disease.To determine if there is a variant of coronavirus, the samples from positive cases will be sent to NCDC Delhi for whole-genome sequencing.

Sunday was Kejriwal’s request to Prime Minister NarendraModi to stop international flights to regions that are witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases.

The new Covid-19 variant Omicron has been identified as a target for patients at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in Delhi.

The hospital was asked to earmark wards to treat such patients.
