Goa CM nearly fell for a voice phishing scam by asking ‘What’s Your Aadhaar Number’

Panaji, Nov 30, : , Chief Minister Pramod Sawant revealed Tuesday how he nearly fell for a voice-phishing scam.An unknown caller called him and demanded his Aadhaar number.

He claimed that if he didn’t provide the information immediately, his bank account would be frozen.
It can happen to anyone.I was in Delhi recently when I received a call at 5.30 p.m.inquiring about my Aadhaar number.I replied that I did not have it.The caller stated that my bank account would be frozen the next day if I didn’t share the number.He directly told me,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said after inaugurating a cyber forensic-cum-training laboratory near Panaji.

“I was also shocked by this.”I was curious why? I opened my purse and pulled out my Aadhaar Card.Then it hit me: why should I share my Aadhaar number? Let my account be frozen.No problem.So I didn’t share my Aadhaar number.

The Chief Minister stated that everyone should be aware of cyber crime.

Sawant also stated that criminals use financial tools such as debit and credit cards details to make it easier to do their business.

Sawant stated that while we use debit cards and credit cards to do business, those who commit crimes use the same financial tools for the ease of doing business.”

“While we use it to study and innovate, criminal minds are making other nefarious uses of it.” He also stated that WhatsApp and Facebook are the most common.

The Chief Minister stated that he had received numerous complaints from job-seekers about fake call letters, and offer letters guaranteeing government jobs in both the central and state governments.

“People have also begun to’make’ job offer letters or call letter.

There are at least two to three cases in Goa.To facilitate his joining, someone even sent a letter of offer to one department.The case has been opened.There was no interview, and someone offered to write a letter.Sawant stated that this is when we realized it was fake.

“Some youth have come to me complaining that they received offer letters from central government departments and a missive to make Rs 10 lakh to get work.

Even if these letters are fake, people still pay money for them and then regret it,” the Chief minister added.
