Andre Russell, West Indies all-rounder, will join the Melbourne Stars for Big Bash League

Melbourne, Dec 8, 2008 : Melbourne Stars announced Wednesday that Andre Russell, West Indies all-rounder, will join the team for the current season of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Russell, who has been contracted to play five matches for Stars, will be the fifth international signing for Stars this season, following Joe Clarke and Haris Rahauf.The Stars lost their opening match by 152 runs to the Sydney Sixers on December 5, after which they had a forgettable season.

Russell’s first match against the Stars will be against Sydney Thunder, his former BBL club.Our club is proud to have Andre, a player of his quality, play for the Melbourne Stars.Our Stars family wants to see the best players at the MCG.Andre is world-class.David Hussey, head coach, said that he was excited to work with Andre in the time he’s here.

He will make his debut on Friday night.

Russell had shown his versatility in the BBL, playing for Thunder in three seasons between 2014 and 2017.

The 33-year old played 19 matches for Thunder in three seasons.His last appearance in BBL was in January 2017, when he had been injured in a match against Stars.

His total runs at the BBL are 296 runs, based on 17 innings and a strike rate 166.29.This includes 21 sixes.He has taken 23 wickets, with an economy rate 7.97.

Russell is currently in quarantine for 72 hours after landing in Sydney.He was a ‘player-of-the-matc’h performer of 90 balls, which helped his Deccan Gladiators win the T10 league title.

The Kolkata Knight Riders recently retained Russell ahead of the 2022 season IPL.
