London, Dec 8, 2008 : A yellow wind warning has been issued in the UK after storm ‘Barra” brought strong winds, heavy rain, and snow to parts. According to Xinhua news agency, the Met Office warned that the storm could cause travel disruptions.
However, some trains and flights in Northern Ireland have already been cancelled due to weather conditions.
Northern Ireland Electricity stated that approximately 5,500 customers were without power on Tuesday lunchtime.
The yellow warnings about rain, wind, and snow will be in effect until Wednesday morning in most of Great Britain, except in Scotland, where the storm could disrupt areas still recovering from Storm Arwen.
Just 10 days after Storm Arwen, Storm Barra arrived.
It caused disruption and three deaths across the UK.
Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stated Tuesday that the country must learn from the past and prepare for future storms such as Barra and Arwen.
“We haven’t seen a storm so violent as Storm Arwen in a long while. He said that it was likely to happen again and that we need to protect people against it.”
