New Delhi, Nov 25, : Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener feels that Shubman Gil needs to improve his footwork and batting technique in order to continue to be a successful player at the highest levels.
"Gill is prone to playing deliveries from deep within his crease.Jaffer stated that this will increase the chance of Jaffer getting a leg before "I think he should be prepared for those larger balls.
He does reach deep into the crease and then plays the ball from there. But its all about getting his mind forward to the ball.
Sometimes he will just pause and look at the fuller balls before he throws his bat at it.Jaffer stated that he doesnt need to do this.Jaffers comments were made after Kyle Jamieson, a young batter, dismissed Jaffer after a well-constructed half-century in the opening Test against New Zealand at Kanpur.
Gill survived being hit on the pads by Ajaz Ptel in his innings.None of the New Zealand players appealed convincingly to him.Later, he played on Jamieson for 52 innings. He scored five fours and one six "He should be ready for the bigger balls.
He likes to play the backfoot shots and goes deep in his crease. He opens the batting in IPL and white-ball cricket.
All of his junior cricket has been at the top orders, so if he wants the middle order, he must work on it and improve.Jaffer said that this is the longest international bowlers will bowl.
Jaffer was also asked about technical changes Gill would need to bat in the middle order.inj/c #Wasim #Jaffer #flaw #Gills #technique #Delhi #Cricket #BCCI #ICC #IPL.
