Transgenders to be a part of Warangal Municipal Corporation.
Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has taken a never-before decision to recruit transgenders as a part of its municipal corporation.
GWMC Commissioner Pamela Satpathy has come forward to offer dignity to the local transgenders by appointing them to maintain community toilets, nurseries and generic drug stores
It is the first time in any municipal corporation in the country where transgenders have appointed as a part of Municipal Corporation.Commissioner Pamela Satpathy said the GWMC has been looking at various options to employ transgenders so that the corporation can help them to lead a respectable life in the society.
She said some of the transgenders were highly qualified with good degrees, and the corporation has decided to set up generic drug stores and hand over to them.In this regard, she has already ordered Chief Municipal Health Officer (CMHO), Dr B Raja Reddy, to take necessary steps to set up the generic drug stores.
According to the official reports, eight community toilets have been handed over to transgenders so far for the maintenance.The transgenders, who look after them, will get Rs 16,000 per month to maintain the toilets.
The GWMC is going to conduct training sessions for the transgender community on how to maintain the toilets and Loo Cafes besides ensuring loans for them.Apart from that, the transgenders can get membership in Self Help Groups (SGHs) and improve their life just like with other women.
