Visakhapatnam : , Tuesday 23 November : .Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Marine Interpretation Unit at the Forest Research Centre for Coastal Ecosystem in Visakhapatnam.
He urged people to be more eco-conscious and live a sustainably lifestyle amid the climate change. He stated that it was time to make the necessary changes in order to improve our planet’s overall health.
To disseminate information on the ocean environment and work with coastal communities, The Marine Interpretation Unit was established.FRCCE is the nation’s only institution that studies timber protection in seawater.
Naidu is currently on a 4-day visit to Visakhapatnam.He is also happy to see that FRCCE is conducting research on the management of forest biological resources and mangrove ecosystems.
He said, “Their research on the Eastern Ghats’ mangrove ecosystem and biodiversity is of vital importance in this time of climate change and ecological degradation.”
The Vice President reiterated that science’s ultimate goal is “to bring happiness to people and improve their lives,” and praised the Centre’s efforts in helping the coast communities.
As a step towards alleviating poverty, he expressed happiness at the Centre’s distribution of 100 catamarans of preservative-treated perishable wood to fishermen in Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu.
