USTR is in S.Korea to discuss supply chains and trade pact

Katherine Tai (US Trade Representative) arrived in South Korea Thursday to discuss pending trade issues like supply chains for key components or steel tariffsAccording to Yonhap News Agency, Tais visit of four days marked the first time that an American trade representative has been to South Korea in ten years.

On Friday, she will meet South Korean Trade Minister Yeohan-koo for the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement joint committee meeting (FTA).Separate talks are planned with An Kyung-duk Labour Minister on workers rights and trade policy.

According to her office, she will meet with women leaders in the public and private sector on Saturday before heading for India the next day.The Tai-Yeo meeting will focus on how to increase bilateral cooperation in global supply chain and the tariffs for exports of Korean steel and aluminum.Washington and Seoul have committed to working closer together to strengthen supply chains of key components.
