The state government would be roped in different media platforms to share details about them. This is after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his "Mann Ki Baat" programme, stated that the year 2023 will be declared the International Year of Millets.
The UN General Assembly on April 2021 passed a resolution that was supported by India and declared 2023 the International Year of Millets. Its goal is to raise the publics awareness of the health benefits of millets.
Modi stated, "Today, around the world, the interest in these extremely coarse grains, called millets is growing." He said that Indians have been serving meals made of millets to foreigners who are visiting India and they have enjoyed millet dishes extremely much.
PM Modi stated that millets or coarse grain have been part of Indias culture, agriculture and civilization since the beginning of time.India is the biggest producer of millets in the world and is taking the initiative to make the millet trend successful.
Millets can also benefit farmers and, in particular, small-scale farmers since they can be ready in the shortest amount of time and do not require a lot of water.Millet hay is regarded as the best food source.
As per experts, both millet varieties are very nutritious.Sawaan is three times higher in phosphorus than rice.Kodo contains more calcium than rice.
These crops can be grown in extremely harsh weather conditions. They were previously utilized as a substitute for rice.
The awareness of these milllets will be spread ahead of the millet year that is internationally celebrated.amita/dp.
