New Delhi, Aug 26 : Following the resignation of veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad The Congress on Friday stated that it was regrettable.

In addition, the final arrangements are being put in place for the Mehangai par Hallo Bol rally in New Delhi on Sept 4th, as well as for the launching of the Bharat Jodo Yatra departing from Kanyakumari on the 7th of September," he said.The Chief Minister of the time and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Friday announced his resignation from all posts in the Congress party including its core membership as was expected in the wake of his disagreements with the high command of the party.

Azad was previously dismissed as chief of the Congress campaign committee in J&K.The resignation was followed by a few of his supporters resigning from the Congress.

In his resignation letter Azad is claiming that CWC members of discrediting him following the G-23 leaders sent an open note to Sonia Gandhi in 2020 "The sole crime that the 23 leaders wrote in this letter of concerns for the party was that they outlined the main reasons for the weakness in the party as well as solutions.However instead of taking these views into consideration in an open and constructive way, we were abused disgraced, humiliated and vilified in the specially scheduled gathering of the extended CWC meeting," he said in his resignation letter.

Azad was elected to the Congress in the mid 1970s.He held numerous important positions in the Congress and in the government.

He was a minister in the cabinet of the central government which was headed by Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, P.V.Narasimha Rao, and Dr.Manmohan Singh.In the year 1980, Azad was the general secretary of AICC under every president of the party during that time.

He was the Chief Minister of J&K between 2005 until the year 2008.In the resignation letter he to party President Sonia Gandhi, Azad said, "You are aware that I had a very intimate relationship with your family members from late Mrs Indira Gandhi late Shri Sanjay Gandhi onwards including your late husband "In the same spirit, I have a deep personal respect for your personal struggles and trials that will continue for the rest of your life "Some of my other colleagues and I will continue to keep the ideals to which we have spent to our whole adult lives to outside the formal sphere of the Indian National Congress".

Azads decision to leave with the Congress is considered to be a significant change due to of his political influence, especially in the Jammu division.He is a resident of the Doda district.miz/dp.
