UN to launch a new appeal following devastating Pakistan floods

Islamabad 30 August : The UN will launch a new flash appeal on Tuesday, to assist Pakistan combat the devastating floods which have killed at least 1,136 people since mid-June, officials announced.
The international body announced it was seeking $161 million in order to provide cash and food assistance for victims, as reported by the DPA news agency.

The flood, which was triggered by heavy monsoon rains from mid-June, also claimed the lives of 1,634 people, forced the displacement of over 33 million people and destroyed 1,051,570 homes 162 bridges, as well as 170 shops according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The NDMA also reported that an estimated 735,375 livestock died in the record flood.
