Tripoli, Nov 30, : The UN Support Mission in Libya has condemned acts that would jeopardize elections in Libya.UNSMIL issued a statement Monday saying that it strongly condemned all acts that Threaten the Integrity of the electoral process and prevent Libyans exercising their democratic rights in safety, dignity, and security.
According to Xinhua news agency, an armed group allegedly associated with forces controlling Sebha’s southern city has reportedly violently obstructed work of the Court of Appeal in Sebha.
“UNSMIL is also alarmed at increasing reports of intimidation against judges and judicial staff, especially those dealing with electoral-related complaints as well as candidates in a number o locations in Libya,” it said.
The UN mission warned against any action which could deprive Libyans their right to democratically choose their representatives.It also warned against any actions that could undermine the holding free, fair and inclusive, credible and transparent elections.
The UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum has set December 24 as the date for the parliamentary and presidential elections.This is part of a roadmap that aims to bring stability to Libya.
