In 2021, the UK will hold the G7 Presidency.

This is the second meeting of G7 foreign ministers in person this year after May’s London meeting.

The Summit will be attended by countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, (ASEAN), for the first-time.

The ASEAN foreign ministers from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia are expected to be there. This was after the Foreign Secretary had visited these countries earlier in the month.

This attendance is a continuation of the May meeting that included South Korea, South Korea, Australia and South Africa representatives. The statement stated that these nations represent an even wider geographic range of countries who are committed to reforming the international order so that economies can thrive.

These topics will cover a broad range of global issues including global economic resilience, global health, and human rights.

After a number of international meetings around the UK in this year’s, the Summit in Liverpool follows the COP Climate Summit in Glasgow in April and the G7 Leaders Summit hosted in Carbis Bay by Boris Johnson, Prime Minister, in June.

Liverpool was chosen because of its iconic status as a port city, with strong international ties and an enduring cultural, musical, and sporting legacy.

According to the statement, Foreign Secretary Truss said, “The G7 meeting of Foreign and Development Ministers at Liverpool next month will be a wonderful opportunity to show the city to world,” Truss stated.

I will host our partners and friends to talk about how we can build stronger economic, technological and security ties worldwide and provide for the British people. We must build a global network of liberty which advances democracy, freedom and enterprise.

It should also encourage like-minded nations to cooperate from a position that is strong.

Joanne Anderson (Mayor of Liverpool) said that Liverpool was proud to be chosen as the host of this international event for the UK government.

We are an appropriate choice due to our cultural importance, musical significance and sporting greatness, which draws visitors from all over the globe, and our scientific and architectural innovations.”
