Two patients die of new drug-resistant fungus strain at AIIMS

New Delhi : Nov 23, 2009 - Two people with chronic obstructive lung disease died from Aspergillus, a drug resistant pathogen.

The patients were treated at AIIMSOne in 50 and the other in forty were both suffering from chronic obstruction of pulmonary disease.

According to a published case report in Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology, they were admitted at Delhi AIIMS.First, the patient was seen at a private hospital.

Second, the patient was taken to an AIIMS emergency for fever, cough and shortness.According to IJMM reports, the patients were given oral amphotericin B injections at AIIMS.The treatment resulted in both patients deaths.
