Two loco pilots are booked in TN for the death of 3 elephants

Chennai, Nov 28, : Two loco pilots were charged under Section 9 of Wildlife Protection Act for allegedly killing three elephants while crossing the railway track.
The case was filed on Saturday, and the incident occurred on Friday at 9 p.m.

M.T.is the main loco pilot.Subair of Kozhikode, and M.C., the assistant Loco pilot were charged.Akhil of Thrissur was operating the Mangalore-Chenna Express (12602) on Friday.He was charged under the Wildlife Act.

Shekar Kumar Niraj, Tamil Nadu Principal Conservator for Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, stated to reporters that the loco pilots had been released after recording their statements.He stated that both loco pilots had assured the forest department they would cooperate with the investigation.

Senior officials at the forest department believe that the two loco pilots handled the train negligently because the track where the accident occurred was straight and the loco pilots could see the elephants walking along the track.

Southern Railway responded to the decision of the forest department to file a case against loco pilots by tweeting, “The Railways is offering its best cooperation to Forest Department.” Investigating is ongoing.There is currently no evidence to support the claim that the loco pilots were negligent.It is being considered as a possibility.

S.Balasubramanian, Tamil Nadu forest conservator, told media that the forest department had registered a complaint after a preliminary investigation.

Southern Railway union members and Loco Pilots Association members pickedeted a five-member forest team team from Coimbatore at Palakkad’s MEMU shed.

Dr.A.Dr.Rajesh and Sukumar performed the autopsies on the three elephants.They included a female elephant of 25 years, a male elephant with no trunk (Makna), and a female calf of six years.
