Visakhapatnam wins plaudits from the British Medical Journal and in contention for world smart city award.
The executive capital of Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam, has hit the headlines with two back to back milestones.
At first, it has found a place in British Medical Journal (BMJ) published paper ‘Combating the COVID-19 pandemic in a resource-constrained setting: Insights from initial response in India’ and won the prestigious plaudits.
In the journal, the BMJ appreciates the district administration for carrying its work in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic through ‘convergence in an urban setting’.
The BMJ has selected several countries to carry its study and India has highly impressed the BMJ authorities.
Secondly, Visakhapatnam city has emerged as a finalist in the World Smart City Awards under the category of Living and Inclusion award category.
Competing with the cities of 46 countries, Visakhapatnam has made it to the final list from India.Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) commissioner and Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) chief executive G.Srijana elated with the news and said, it encourages to take up such projects and to win awards at the international level.
The Smart City Expo World Congress, Barcelona annually organizes the prestigious international competition, World Smart City awards.
