It takes the burden off the individual who must interpret the violation.Twitter released a statement late Tuesday night saying that instead of asking them what happened, it asked them what happened.

This is known as’symptoms first’.Twitter first asks the person about their symptoms.

“Here’s an analogy that the team uses: Imagine you’re in an emergency situation. The doctor won’t ask you if your leg is broken if you break it.They ask, “Where is it hurting?” The company explained that the idea is to first try to figure out what’s going on, rather than asking you to diagnose the problem.

Twitter hopes to improve quality of reports by focusing on the experience of the person who reported the tweet.

The platform hopes that this rich source of information, even though they don’t technically break any rules, will provide valuable input that can be used to improve the user experience on the platform.

“What can be frustrating about reporting is that it enforces based on terms-of-service violations as defined by Twitter rules,” Renna Al Yassini, senior UX manager on team.

Al-Yassini said that the vast majority of people’s reports fall within a gray spectrum, which doesn’t meet the criteria for Twitter violations. However, they’re still reporting what’s troubling them as deeply problematic and upsetting.

Twitter stated that it will be able use the feedback it receives from this new process in order to improve its service and help more people.
