Kolkata, Nov 30, : The party has amended its constitution to allow leaders from other states to join the working committee.This is in order to continue the idea of Trinamool Congress National Secretary Abhishek Bangerjee to create party units across 15 states in a year. The party working committee meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Mamata Bangerjee, took the decision on Monday night.
“All members of the Trinamool Congress’ working committee are from West Bengal.
After the meeting, Derek O’Brien, a party leader in Rajya Sabha, stated that the leadership decided to amend the constitution to allow leaders from all regions to be inducted into working committee.
Mamata Banerjee will decide when and how the constitution will be amended.
The next meeting will be held at Delhi.These changes are necessary because the party’s national expansion is driving them to make these changes,” O’Brien said.
This is the first time that leaders from the northeast or the Hindi belt have been elected to the party’s working group, which is the highest decision-making organ.
The party also announced that Mamata Banerjee has named Charles Pyngrope President of its Meghalaya unit.
According to party insiders, Sushmita Deb, a recent member of TMC from Congress might be asked to lead the party units in Assam or Tripura.
The meeting decided to expand the working committee to include leaders from Manipur and Assam, Tripura (Goa), Uttar Pradesh, Haryanas, Bihar, Haryana, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu.
Monday’s meeting was attended at the expense of former Union Minister Yashwant Singhha, who joined in March.Pavan Varma, a former Janata Dal (United Rajya Sabha) member and former Congress MP from Haryana.
Ashok Tanwar, former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma of Meghalaya, joined the Trinamool along with 11 Congress legislators on November 24.
Leander Paes, a former tennis star, was also present.The party is currently in Goa and will contest the forthcoming assembly polls.
Partha Chatterjee, party secretary-general, stated that “Decisions taken today by the working committee will be communicated with leaders in Meghalaya Goa and Tripura.” We have emerged as the main opposition in the two northeastern countries.These changes are being made by the party to adapt to the changing environment.
