Chennai, Nov 29, : The Tiruchi Range of Tamil Nadu Police has launched a crackdown against goat thieves in the area and has recovered 60 goats valued at Rs 3 lakh.
The police are following the murder of a Sub Inspector of Tiruchi Police, S.Bhoominathan.Thieves killed the officer who chased them at midnight.
Police arrested Manikantan, a 19-year old goat thief, and two 14- and 11-year-old juveniles in connection to the murder.V.Balakrishna, Central Zone Inspector of Police, stated in a Monday statement that instructions had been given to the District Superintendents to take action against goat thieves.From November 23 to November 28, twelve cases were registered by Tiruchi police officers, who also arrested four people.
The Tiruchi rural Police booked three cases, eight in Pudukottai and one in Karur.According to the IG, a special team consisting of one Sub Inspector and two policemen has been established in Tiruchi.
Instructions have been given for strict crackdowns on goat thieves.Police were also instructed to monitor cases involving goat theft and to arrest those involved.
They will also display their photos and names.Locals claim that goat thieves are more common than previously thought and that the cartel had deep connections across four to five districts.
