The loco pilot stopped and informed the Palakkad division, Southern Railway, to alert the forest department. The train stopped at Walayar for a few hours with passengers, and then resumed its journey later.
Sunil Menon, an environmentalist from Palakkad and wildlife student, told IANS that the railways should provide guidelines to its loco pilots about the likely areas where elephant herds will cross the track. The forest department can also provide valuable inputs.
It is very sad that three elephants died in this manner. There must be a clear understanding between the Union Environment and Forest Ministry and the Indian Railways about this issue across the country.aal/skp #female #Chennai #Tamil #Kollywood.
