Beijing, Nov 27, : Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company Tesla made the switch to AMD in the Model S.Now, Tesla is using an AMD chip in its Model Y vehicles in China. According to Electrek the electric car manufacturer is using the Ryzen chip from the US-based semiconductor company AMD for the Model Y Performance’s MCU.
Although it is unclear if the Model Y Performance uses the AMD chip or all Tesla vehicles use the same onboard computer, it is a common feature.
The report stated that Tesla also used AMD to power its new entertainment computer in the refreshed Model S.
The automaker required a lot of power because it claims the same computing power that the latest generation gaming consoles.
Tesla has always been very focused on increasing computing power in its vehicles, which are often called “computer on wheels”.
The automaker has focused a lot of attention on its chips for self driving, but Tesla has also been updating its chips to support its entertainment system (MCU).
The report stated that Tesla initially was a partner with Nvidia.Then, it moved to Intel.
Now, it appears like Tesla might be moving to AMD.
