Berlin, Nov 29, 2018 : .Elon Musk’s electric car maker Tesla plans to begin production in Berlin’s Gigafactory next month.
By the end of 2022, the factory will be producing around 30,000 cars. Automobilwoche, a German media outlet, reports that the Berlin Gigafactory needs the final operating permit from the environment department.
After receiving all necessary approvals, the company can begin manufacturing in the country.
Musk stated that the electric car maker will begin with Model Y vehicles and millions of batteries when he speaks at the “Gigafest”.
Environmental groups are suing the Berlin Gigafactory in a number of lawsuits.More than 800 complaints have been filed against the facility by locals.
According to Brandenburg’s Economy Ministry, Tesla has a 95% chance of receiving factory approval despite protests.
Tesla plans to produce as many 500k cars per year and employ 12,000 people at its Berlin plant.
Musk announced last week that Tesla will be moving its headquarters from Silicon Valley’s Palo Alto in California to Austin, Texas where it is building a new plant.
Tesla will continue to operate its electric car factory in Fremont, California and increase its production by 50%.
