A 17-year old boy was arrested and sent to a juvenile facility for allegedly making extortion call to here jewellers, asking them to pay Rs 20 lakhThe teen had failed his Class 10 exam last year and was now pursuing his education at an open school.
After his parents refused to give him substantial pocket money, he decided to extort it.After taking notes about how to make extortion phone calls via social media, the teen allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from three city jewellers.Police said that the accuseds father is a contract employee in the power department and his mother is a domestic worker.
During interrogation, the man revealed that he was inspired to extort a businessman by an article.A senior police official stated that he used social media to learn how to talk like an extortionist and make calls via the internet to block his IP address being tracked.
He obtained the numbers of the jewellers through their hoardings, and called them via the Internet.Within a week, three jewellers were contacted by extortionists "He had asked for Rs 5 Lakh each from two jewellers, and Rs 10 Lakh from the third.
