Dar Es Salaam, Nov 29, : Tanzanian authorities warned that prolonged droughts in parts of the country have caused water scarcity and deterioration in pasture for livestock. “Three major areas in the country now face water rationing and there are also reports of animals dying from lack of pasture and/or water,” said Seleman Jfo, the Minister in the Vice President’s Office responsible Union Affairs and Environment.
Jafo made the shocking revelations in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital, at the end a 10-kilometre bike ride organized by the European Union to support government efforts against climate change and protect the environment.
He stated that the government had started receiving reports from different regions about cattle and goats dying due to lack of water and pasture.
Jafo said that water rationing was occurring in three major regions, Dodoma, Dar es Salaam and Morogoro due to the decline in water levels in rivers and dams.
