Taliban gunmen inspect Kabul residents’ mobile phones

Residents of Kabul complain about gunmen connected to the Taliban government checking their mobile phones.

However, a senior government official stated that the security forces do not have the right of accessing mobile phones of people or harassing citizens.The official thought that intelligence agents might have done this in some cases based on tip-offs.He promised to end the practice.

Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesperson for the caretaker government, also admitted that security forces were not authorized to inspect mobile phones or harass citizens, according to the report.Intelligence operatives may have searched the phones of suspects based on a tip-off in some cases.

He said that this had not happened for all citizens.He said: "Mujahideen Islamic Emirate are not doing this; however, the name of Mujahideen could have been misused.Those who are facing such problems should inform authorities.
