New Delhi, Nov 29th : .Residents of Kabul complain about gunmen connected to the Taliban government checking their mobile phones.
This violates their privacy, Pajhwok News reported. They were concerned about the unwarranted checks and said that it amounts to travesty of human rights and the respect for their privacy.
According to the report, several people from different parts of the capital claimed that they were informed by armed men that their smartphones would need to be checked.
However, a senior government official stated that the security forces do not have the right of accessing mobile phones of people or harassing citizens.
The official thought that intelligence agents might have done this in some cases based on tip-offs.He promised to end the practice.
Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesperson for the caretaker government, also admitted that security forces were not authorized to inspect mobile phones or harass citizens, according to the report.
Intelligence operatives may have searched the phones of suspects based on a tip-off in some cases.
He said that this had not happened for all citizens.
He said: “Mujahideen Islamic Emirate are not doing this; however, the name of Mujahideen could have been misused.Those who are facing such problems should inform authorities.”
He claimed that many men who harassed the people were arrested and that efforts are being made against such imposters.
