According to KMT the trip was a long-planned visit for the purpose of meeting Taiwanese businessmen as well as certain nationals who are living or studying in China in China, mostly in the southern coastal provinces like Fujian and Zhejiang and the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province.

The appointments in Beijing aren’t scheduled.

In China the quarantine time for the group headed by Hsia will end on August 21 following which they will be back in Taiwan on the 27th of August.

The trip has caused controversy because Taiwan has been under attack due to Beijing’s latest economic and military campaign against Taiwan in response to the trip to Taipei by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-wen was unhappy with the KMT’s visit.

“At this point the KMT continues to insist that it will go to China and is causing a lot of disappointment to our people. The way they conduct themselves is sending a wrong message to the world community,” Tsai said on Wednesday afternoon, at a gathering of her Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The KMT has historically maintained closer relations with the Chinese government than the DPP, the government in power.DPP that leans toward independence.
