Swiggy uses veg biryani to take dig at Trump’s claims of victory

Bengaluru, Nov 16 : Bengaluru-based Swiggy, a popular food delivery platform, on Monday took a dig at US President Donald Trump, who again claimed that he has won the elections.

Swiggys reply to Trump on Twitter kickstarted a hilarious debate on Indian cuisine, especially vegetarian biryani.

Trumps tweet "I WON THE ELECTION!" was subjected to several replies from various accounts.Looking at the trend on the micro-blogging site, Swiggy also jumped into the debate, sarcastically commenting that if he has won the election as he claims, then vegetable biryani is Indias national food.

"AND VEG BIRYANI IS INDIAS NATIONAL FOOD," it wrote, in the same all capital style favoured by Trump, in its reply.Vegetable biryani is by a large section of people in India not considered as "biryani" and they prefer to call it "pulao".

As soon as Swiggy quoted Trumps tweet, there was a flood of tweets by netizens. In 2013, Nandan Reddy and Sriharsha Majety designed an e-commerce website called Bundl to facilitate courier service and shipping within India.

Bundl was later rebranded to enter the food delivery market. At the time, the food delivery sector was in turmoil as several start-ups, such as Foodpanda (later acquired by Ola Cabs), TinyOwl (later acquired by Zomato) and Ola Cafe (later closed) were struggling.

Majety and Reddy approached Rahul Jaimini, formerly with Myntra, and founded Swiggy and parent holding company Bundl Technologies in 2014.The company built a dedicated delivery network and grew rapidly, primarily driven by the focus on logistics and locking in key resources.
