Suresh Wadkar recalls recording of ‘Aye Zindagi Gale Laga Le’: ‘I was quite nervous’

Mumbai, Sep 24 : Playback singer Suresh Wadkar took a trip down memory lane, and shared anecdotes from when he recorded the song Aye Zindagi Gale Laga Le from the romantic drama film ‘Sadma’.

The 1983 movie is written and directed by Balu Mahendra.

It stars Kamal Haasan and late Sridevi in lead roles, with the music composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

The film was a remake of Mahendras own 1982 Tamil film ‘Moondram Pirai’, which also stars Kamal and late Sridevi.

This weekend on singing reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, the Ganesh Utsav special episode will feature Suresh Wadkar and his wife Padma Wadkar as special guests.

Contestants gave their best performances during this episode, aiming to impress both the special guests and the judges.

It was Sneha Bhattacharyas rendition of Aye Zindagi Gale Laga Le that captivated everyone.

Suresh was deeply moved by the performance, and complimented Sneha, he said: “You sang this song exceptionally well, even better than I did in my younger days.”

“Your performance brought back memories of when I recorded this song for the renowned South Indian music composer, Illaiyaraaja,” he shared.

Suresh further said: “I was quite nervous that day because 75 per cent of our industrys musicians were there to witness my performance.It was then that I truly realised the immense stature and fame of Ilaiyaraaja as a composer.

”

In response, judges Anu Malik and Neeti Mohan invited him on stage to sing a few lines of this iconic song.

The show, which features Himesh Reshammiya as one of the judges, and Aditya Narayan as the host, commenced on a melodious note as contestants from all corners of the country auditioned for a coveted spot in the top 12 of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2023.

And now, the top 12 singing prodigies are captivating the judges with their unique voices and passion for singing every week.

While the shows refreshing format and introduction of fresh talent have created a stir among the audience, viewers have been having a gala time watching the singing sensations put up some wonderful performances’ week after week.
