K’taka CM takes strict precautions against Covid in the border districts

Bengaluru, Nov 28, 2008 : .Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka, stated Sunday that strict precautions were taken in the border districts as part of plans to control and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Paramedical staff and students from Kerala have noticed an increase in cases.This has led to stricter precautions being taken in the Dakshina Kannada and Madikeri districts bordering Kerala.

Only those arriving from Kerala will be allowed to enter the country with a negative RT-PCR report.Bommai stated to media that they must have a second dose of vaccine before entering Karnataka.

Bommai spoke out about the Omicron, a new variant of Covid.He said that the new variant was reported in South Africa and Hong Kong, as well as Botswana.

The World Health Organization also issued an alert regarding the new strain.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also issued guidelines to control and prevent the new strain.

Karnataka has not been affected by the new strain.

Bommai stated that the increase in Covid cases in student hostels in Dharwad and Mysuru was due to these hostels and colleges being declared Containment Zones.Students were being tested for Covid.These colleges also test doctors and nurses.

All those arriving from countries that have reported the new strain will be required to undergo a compulsorily administered test at the airports.If they are negative, they will be allowed into the cities.

Anyone who tests positive will be moved to the containment area.Bommai stated that the union government has been asked to ban passengers from the three countries that have reported the new strain.

Responding to a question regarding the proposal for a Booster dose vaccine for frontline workers, Chief Minister said that the Centre has already received a request from the state government for permission to administer the Booster dose.

Double doses of vaccination were made compulsory by the state government for all employees working in government offices, malls and cinema halls.

Bommai stated that testing has been intensified in border areas.Students who arrived in Kerala in the last 16 days would be tested again seven days after receiving a negative report.
