Steven asked Shoojit if he had “come full circle” as a filmmaker with “West Side Story”, touching upon the musical genre, and Steven replied, “Well, this genre has been near to my heart all of my life.” It was only necessary for ‘West Side Story to do one.”

Spielberg explained how he had been building up the courage to make movies like this over the years.”I’ve been sorting backing my courage, letting each movie I made give me more courage until finally, I was able reimagined the work of four geniuses (Stephen) Sondheim (Leonard Bernstein), (Arthur Laurents) and (Jerome (Robbins).”

Steven explained the reasons behind Steven’s musical bent of mind by saying, “My mom was an accomplished concert pianist so I was raised with music from the moment I was born.”

Shoojit talked about his last film, “Sardar Udham”, where the protagonist said that “youth” was a gift from God and how one could “either give it meaning or just wither it.” The director of ‘Schindler’s List’ replied, “It’s the next generation that will determine the fate for all of us.” If they are able to have a conversation with people different from them, xenophobia will be in the rearview mirror and not in our current vernacular.

“All of this is going to happen by several new generations, young people who care about one another.” He said that if empathy continues to fade, democracy will also die.

Shoojit said that every Indian film was “more or less musical”.Steven laughed and said, “It is very smart, it’s selling a story through music and dance, the fastest way to our hearts.

Shoojit stated that every filmmaker wants to be able to dictate how they want to make films that have a positive impact on the world.”A filmmaker’s beautiful universe is one where there’s no discrimination or racism.”

Steven added that he hoped he’d been doing that throughout his career. He hoped he’d been telling stories that brought people together from different ideologies.
