Government gives Rs 96.13 Cr to States/UTs to modernize police stations: Govt

New Delhi, December 7, 2017 : .The Parliament heard Tuesday that the Centre provided Rs.96.13 million to States and Union Territories between 2017-18 and 2020-21 for modernization of their police stations.
In a written response to Chirag Paswan’s question, Minister of State, Nityanand Rai stated that Rs.3.9 Crore was given to Bihar for modernizing police stations.

He also replied that public order and police are subjects of the state, according to the seventh Schedule in the Constitution.

The states/UTs have primary responsibility for the prevention, detection and investigation of all types of crime, including cybercrimes.

The Minister of Home Affairs also told the Lok Sabha about the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women & and Children Scheme (CCPWC).

This scheme addresses various cyber-crime issues against children and women.

Under this scheme, financial assistance has been provided to all the states/UTs for setting up cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories, hiring of junior cyber forensic consultants and training, capacity building to provide hands-on training to law enforcement agencies personnel, public prosecutors and judicial Officers.

Rai said that advisories were also issued to the states/UTs about using these labs as capacity-building programmes for police officers.

Further, the MHA also implements the scheme of “Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police”, under which the state governments are provided Central assistance to strengthen police infrastructure, including equipping of police stations, for acquisition of latest weaponry, training gadgets, advanced communication/forensic equipment, cyber policing equipment etc.

He said that the state governments create their annual state actions plans according to their strategic priorities.Some of these State Governments use components of this scheme in their police stations for the prevention, detection and investigation of criminal acts, including cybercrimes.
