Sri Lanka issues red alert for heavy rain

Colombo 5 Sep : Sri Lankas Meteorological Department on Monday issued an alert in various districts, as heavy rain were forecast to hit the nation in the days ahead.

An alert for severe lightning was also issued, and motorists were warned to be on the lookout for lightning.The Disaster Management Centre said that sea, land, and air forces were alert and were ready to assist in evacuation operations in the event that the situation got worse.

Sri Lanka faces severe floods during the monsoon season, that cause thousands of people to be evacuated and many dead.
