Colombo 5 Sep : Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department on Monday issued an alert in various districts, as heavy rain were forecast to hit the nation in the days ahead.The Department warned that certain areas could see rain of over 150 millimetres and people living in low-lying areas should move to higher ground, according to Xinhua news agency.
An alert for severe lightning was also issued, and motorists were warned to be on the lookout for lightning.
The Disaster Management Centre said that sea, land, and air forces were alert and were ready to assist in evacuation operations in the event that the situation got worse.
