New Delhi, Nov 29, : .The Gamaleya Institute believes both Sputnik V & Sputnik Light will neutralise Covid-19’s latest variant, Omicron.

Kirill Dmitriev CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said that Monday’s announcement by the Gamaleya Institute.
Dmitriev stated that the Gamaleya Institute has already started developing the Omicron-adapted version of the Sputnik vaccine, based upon existing protocols for developing vaccine versions immediately for variants of concern.

He added that the new Sputnik Omicron version could be ready for mass production in as little as 45 days in an extremely rare case.

“The Gamaleya Institute believes Sputnik V or Sputnik Light will neutralize Omicron because they have the highest efficacy in combating other mutations.Dmitriev stated that if a modification is necessary, we will provide several Sputnik Omicron boosters before February 20, 2022.”

Sputnik Light and Russian Sputnik V vaccines have been shown to be highly effective against all known variants of SARC-Cov-2.According to the RDIF, Sputnik vaccine’s effectiveness is based on a heterogeneous boosting approach that uses two different vectors for two shots.This was pioneered by Gamaleya Institute and a proven adenoviral platform.

It triggers a wider immune response than mRNA vaccines.

Omicron, a variant of B.1.1.529, was reported to WHO by South Africans on November 24.Omicron, a highly divergent variant, was first reported to WHO by South Africans on November 24th.Some of these mutations were concerning and could be associated with higher transmissibility and immune escape potential.The global health body acknowledged that there are still many uncertainties.
