Two fires in the Bejis region in the north as well as in Vall d’Ebro in the south of Valencia have devastated an area of about 21,000 acres of land.

On Wednesday, blazes in Bejis caused the stoppage of a train.

A number of passengers panicked and were able to jump from the back of the train with five people suffering burns. The train was able to get rid of the flames and returned back to its place of its origin.

About 2,000 people were evicted from their homes due to the flames, of which some are now in a position to go back, Spanish paper La Vanguardia and national broadcaster RTVE said.

2022 was the most devastating year since records began for forest fires, with hundreds of wildfires throughout the summer that destroyed large huge areas of the country.

Forest fires have been raging across Europe in drought conditions during the summer.

In Portugal the country, a forest fire that rages around 80 km north of Lisbon has been controlled by about 500 emergency personnel according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.

Experts believe that climate change could be an important factor in the rising amount of wildfires.

Climate change is causing more heat which in turn causes dry conditions that enable fires to ignite and spread faster.
