Centre is accused by Sonia of being insensitive towards farmers

New Delhi, Dec 8, 2008 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi accused the Centre of being insensitive towards farmers on Wednesday.She also said that the Centre had repealed the farm laws in an “undemocratic”.
Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, she paid tribute to 700 farmers who died during the protest against farm laws.Rahul Gandhi was also present.

She extended unconditional support to farmers and demanded legally guaranteed MSP.She also asked party members to honor the farmers who were killed during the protest.

Notably, Congress has been demanding adequate compensation for the families of the victims farmers.Rahul Gandhi, Party MP, recently presented a list of protestors who had been killed by farmers in the Lok Sabha.

Sonia Gandhi claimed that while the Opposition has demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament about the border situation, the Centre is refusing to do so.

The veteran leader called the suspension of 12 Rajya Sabha MPs “unprecedented” and “unacceptable”, but said that the party stood in solidarity with them.

Sonia demanded the cancellation of the suspension order and said that the Centre would have to reinstate them.

Modi’s government is also accused of selling assets of the country to recover economic losses.

While interacting with media on Tuesday, Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Khrge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, stated that MPs were suspended during the entire Winter session because of an act that took place during the Monsoon session.The Opposition will launch a hunger strike if the Centre does not lift the suspension.
