Minsk 26 Nov : Nearly 1,000 Iraqi refugees have expressed their willingness to return home, while a group flew from Minsk to Iraq to assist the refugees, according to state media. Majid al Kinani, the Russian and Belarusian consul to Iraq, stated that about 1,000 people had made requests to the Iraqi side for permission to return to Iraq.
Many thousands of refugees, mostly from Middle East, attempt to enter Poland, Lithuania, and other European Union countries via Belarus to seek asylum in western Europe.According to Xinhua news agency, Poland has tightened border controls and prevented illegal entry.
This has left large numbers of immigrants at the border.
