The director of ‘Skyfall’ Sam Mendes to be honoured with Ebert Director Award at TIFF

Los Angeles, Aug 17 : British filmmaker Sam Mendes is well-known for films such as 1917", Skyfall," and Road to perdition", will be honored with the Ebert Director Award at this years Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The award was previously awarded to it was presented to stars like of Martin Scorsese, Claire Denis, Ava DuVernay, Wim Wenders, and Agnes Varda.The award is a reincarnation of the festivals Roger Ebert Golden Thumb Award.

TIFF Director Cameron Bailey announced about conferring the honor on Sam on Tuesday (Pacific Standard Time) The news comes from Variety."From his debut appearance at TIFF with "American Beauty" director Sam Mendes brought his exacting and poetic vision of cinema to Toronto," Bailey said.

"We are thrilled to recognize the unique voice and his body of work with this years TIFF Ebert Director Award." The TIFF Tribute Awards will be an event to raise money for the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11.According to Variety, Toronto will also be the site of the Canadian premiere of Mendes his most recent film"Empire of Light. Mendes has written directed, written, and produced the movie.

The film is set in the English coastal town in the early 1980s"Empire of Light is a tale about a love story as well as the power of cinema.The film features Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke, Toby Jones and Colin Firth.

Famous cinematographer Roger Deakins, a frequent Mendes collaborator has shot the film.Mendes made his debut in the feature film industry at TIFF in 1999 with the world premiere of "American Beauty," which was later awarded the best picture and best direction at the Oscars.aa/kv.
