SKM to write open letter to Modi demanding remunerative MSP (Ld)

New Delhi : , Sunday, November 21st, 2001 – The Samyukt Kisan Morcha sent an open letter on Sunday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.It raised the outstanding demands of farmers and included central legislation that would guarantee a remunerative minimal support price (MSP).

They also decided to keep their previous announced programs.
The SKM stated that the rally will begin in Lucknow on Monday as planned.

They also said the next meeting would be held on November 27, to discuss developments and prepare for the Sansad Chalo march on November 29.

After the Friday announcement by Prime Minister of India’s government to abolish three controversial farm laws, SKM met at the Kisan Andolan Headquarters on Singhu Border.The SKM warmly felicitated “all Indian farmers and workers for this historic victory” after a year-long struggle.

A consortium of farmer’s organisations and other non-governmental organizations also decided that they would continue to implement all announced programs as planned.

This includes the “Kisan Mahapanchayat” in Lucknow, Monday, and the “Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Diwas” on Sir Chhotu’s birthday on November 24, as well as a meeting to discuss developments on November 27, and the statement of the SKM stating, “We appeal for all citizens to participate in all events and to hold state-level farmer-worker demonstrations in faraway states from Delhi.”

SKM stated that it would continue its “Sansad Chalo” march on November 29.

After the marathon meeting, 40 representatives from all member organizations attended the SKM Statement.”While Narendra Modi and his government do not recognize the immense sacrifices of around 700 farmers of Kisan Andolan,” they said.

Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao announced a Rs 3 lakh per family of martyrs, but also requested that the Centre pay Rs 25 lakh to each family of farmers.He also asked for an unconditional withdrawal.

It stated that the Telangana government will receive the list of martyrs from the SkM to enable ex-gratia support for the families of the martyrs’ loved ones.

Yesterday’s national convention of a Punjab-based Women’s Collective focused on ‘Farmers’ Struggle and Earth Democracy’.The speakers spoke out about the historical contribution of women farmers in the struggle and paid tribute to those who died fighting for the cause, according to the SKM statement.

Leaders such as Balveer Rajewal and Gurunam Singh Chadhuni, Manjit Rai Darshan Pa, Yogendra Yadav, and Manjit Rai Darshan Pa attended the meeting.However, Rakesh Tikait, the leader of Bhartiya Kisan Union, was absent in Lucknow.
