A viral video clip showed a very weak lion in a Karachi Zoo.The lion seems to have not been fed in the last few days.

Quatrina, Country Director of CDRS Benji Project for Animal Welfare, Pakistan shared the video and said: “We don’t have the right to keep animals in zoos.Karachi Zoo does not pay its food suppliers. The animals are already in terrible shape.

My heart is breaking.Let’s close all zoos.

Irum Azeem Faooque, a wildlife expert, stated in her post: “The Karachi Zoo must immediately close down. The administration is not ashamed.

Is this how caged animals are treated? Karachi zoo fails to pay food suppliers. It breaks my heart to see this, please speak up.

According to Pakistani news channel ARY News, the contractor responsible for providing the food has posted a notice at the Karachi Zoo’s gate stating that he will not be able supply the food because the Karachi Municipal Corporation has not paid his bills for the past 11 months and that he does not have the money to feed the animals.

The Zoo administration confirmed the news, saying that they had been rationing food and were now only left with food supplies for a few days during ration godown.

According to the report, many animals including the “pride” of zoo, lions, have become weak from lack of proper food. The Karachi Zoo has seen the worst case scenario of animal deaths due to poor facilities and health.

The mysterious death of the second of the two illegally brought lions to Karachi in 2017 was the latest example.

Four elephants are also at the zoo, who have been very sick over the past few months due to a poor diet.

After the petition was filed by wildlife experts, the Sindh High Court ordered Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) immediately to contact the German veterinary specialists to examine the elephants’ health.

“Conditions were very bad when we arrived in 2016.

It is very distressing to see the current conditions. We submitted a mandatory and obligatory document to the authorities, including the mayor of Islamabad, and the wildlife department, particularly regarding elephants, lions, and other animals at zoo.We had recommended significant changes to the facility.”Our recommendations have not been implemented,” stated Dr Amir Khalil, Four Paws, an international animal welfare organization.

Similar is the case with Islamabad and Lahore zoos, where most of their animals are in poor health.

Wildlife experts say that wildlife in Pakistan receives little or no protection because of the country’s violations of human rights.”How can we expect animal rights”?

Despite Pakistan having many wildlife laws to protect animals, these are often violated with impunity by the Imran Khan government that allows rich Arabs to hunt “endangered”, including the Bustard.
