The November issue of Tamil Mouthpiece, the TBA reported that Brahmin brides are being sought in the Hindi heartland in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

N.

Narayanan, president of the Association, spoke to IANS and stated that “around 40,000 Tamil Brahmin males between the ages 30-40 are experiencing difficulty finding Tamil Nadu brides from the community”.

The main reason was the unbalanced sex ratio.

He stated that there are only six girls for every 10 boys, which is causing major difficulties in the search for brides.

Brahmins of Tamil Nadu are strict about tradition, so marriages between Tenkalai or Adikalai sects within the Iyengar family is not allowed.

It is common to marry Telugu-Tamil Brahmins, as well as marriages between Tamil-speaking Madhwas or Smarthas. The state’s Brahmins are now looking for Brahmin brides.

While academicians and intellectuals agree there is a problem, they disagree on what to blame.

R.Padmanabhan is Director of Socio-Economic Development Foundation. He’s a Madurai-based think tank and a Brahmin.IANS said that “more than the sex gap ratio, many Brahmin parents find it difficult to wed their daughters.” This is due to the high standard that wealthy and well-off Brahmins set for marriages, despite the fact that the traditions, customs, and teachings of their community discourage pomp and show. Many parents find it hard to wed their daughters, which is why there are so few brides.

To find brides for Brahmin youths, the Tamizhnadu Brahmin Association will appoint coordinators to be based in Lucknow, Delhi and Patna.

The association’s headquarters will have a Hindi-speaking coordinator to help coordinate the Tamil Nadu section.

TBA believes that the lack of brides is due to the inability of grooms to have sex with their brides as planned by the government.

Gourikrishna is a Chennai homemaker who belonged to the traditional Iyengar sect.He told IANS that “Brahmins can also search for brides in other communities.” Because everyone is committed to their heritage and wants to keep their traditions, this isn’t happening. These youths are now looking for North Indian brides.

It is not clear how these girls will adapt to South India and Tamil Nadu as South Indian Brahmins are very different than the North Indians. They can marry anyone outside their community if they marry North Indian girls.

This topic has been a hot issue and social problem with up to 40,000 young people in the area refusing to get married within the state.

M.K., a social commentator who is now a retired professor Krishnan said to IANS that Brahmins should think beyond their communities and can then marry in Tamil Nadu. This will make it more convenient than to marry from another state, especially North Indian countries.
