Lucknow 29 August : Doctors from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) have accomplished a remarkable feat in the field of life-saving strict bronchoscopic elimination of bullets off the wall of the airway of an unborn child.
The bullet entered from the lower back, and then entered the chest. It was then stuck in the wall of the airway.
Due to of the airway wall, it escaped out in the surrounding area, leading to difficulties in breathing. After a preliminary assessment of the bronchoscopic system the rigid bronchoscopy was then performed by mouth under general anaesthesia.
Then, the bullets were removed using forceps made of rigid material by Dr.Amit Kumar Singh of Department of Trauma Surgery. After that the silicone stent was put in place for the purpose of covering the rent of approximately 2 centimeters in the wall of the airway.
The patient was transferred into the ICU conscious and in a seated position. This avoids an extensive surgical procedure to eliminate the bullet from the chest, without surgical incision.
This is the first procedure in its kind to be performed at the department of medical pulmonary SGPGI with the knowledge of Dr.Ajmal Khan and his team. The patient is recovering in ICU of ATC under the supervision of Dr Amit Kumar Singh, according to the information provided by Dr Alok Nath, head of the department of Pulmonary medicine.amita/shb.
