Kozhikode, Kerala (Dec 8th, 2008) Railways and Manipur will be facing off in the final of Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship in Kozhikode. Both semi-final opponents took both sides to penalty shootouts where Manipur beat Odisha while Railways beat Mizoram.
Manipur, the twenty-time title winner, has been on an incredible rampage scoring 27 goals so far.
Manipur Bembem Devi’s head coach is cautious about their opponents’ strength.
“Railways is a very experienced side.They have always been formidable opponents when I played against them.She said that we will have to be competitive and tough.”
Both sides also faced off in the Hero Senior NFC’s previous edition.”We played against them last season in the finals, and will do everything to keep our title and make our state proud.” Bembem Devi stated that the girls are motivated and will fight until the end.
Railways won their group with 20 goals and beat a Mizoram team in the semi-final to reach the final. Kamlakanta Sing, the Railways head coach, seemed to be fully aware of the enormity of Wednesday’s task.He maintained, “My players are fighters and will continue to fight until the end.”
“Manipur is rich with football culture, and I respect them very much.We won’t be under any pressure to play on the pitch.Kamlakanta stated that we are confident in playing a good game.
