Pune 10th September : In a shocking development unidentified scamsters have scammed the giant of vaccines Serum Institute of India (SII) over at least Rs 1 million by sending fake messages in the name of the CEO Adar Poonawala seeking money transfers an official of Bundgarden Police Station told the Bundgarden Police Station on Saturday.
When IANS contacted SII IANS The SII official refused to comment on the matter.According to the police complaint the SII director Satish Deshpande was sent an WhatsApp message purportedly from a person who claimed to be Adar Poonawala and seeking the money transfer in installments to bank accounts.In the confusion caused by themessages by the CEO, companys officials made online transfers of approximately Rs 1.01 crore but then discovered that they had been tricked by the CEO, as Poonawala never sent the messages or demanded money.The SII gained international recognition in 2021 following its launch and produced millions of doses of the life-saving Covishield vaccines to fight the Coronavirus epidemic that has spread across the world.qn/pg.
